1. Using the same method as we used in the class for the hydrogenic atoms, derive the
selection rules for the radiative transitions in a one-dimensional quantum harmonic
oscillator. The wavefunctions for the 1D oscillators are provided in Sec. 2.4 of your
textbook including the required properties of the Hermite polynomials. [10 points]
