References 13 7/11/2020 SCK3703-Community Work Assignment 02 SCK3703-Assignment 02-final. 2 | P a g e INTRODUCTION In this assignment, there will be an elaboration of the development of the IkagengWitkoppen Pre-primary school. There will be a close focus on how the staff members, principal, parents and students will work together. 3 | P a g e Question 1 1. Situational analysis: The purpose of situational analysis is to gain understanding of the nature of the practice situation. This step will help the practitioner to select the practice model or models that would be used as a basis of intervention. According to most learners in the Ikageng-Witkoppen Pre-Primary school are from single parent families. The task mentioned above the student did historical backgrounds about the school and community that is located in the north west of the greater Johannesburg where most of the black people are employed as farmer workers and domestic workers and socially disadvantaged. Accommodation for these families is minimal and there are overcrowding, lack of privacy and not enough transport. These conditions have resulted in far-reaching social problems such as alcoholism, prostitution, teenage pregnancy, and child neglect. During the years, the school development as farm school, catering for children of domestic workers and farm labourers as well as for children from squatter camps in the area. These children mostly came from impoverished backgrounds. The student according to the case study had an idea of bringing a project that would benefit the community. She was introduced to the principal of the school and presented her idea and the principal become interested and gave the student the permission to present it community members and they liked it too, and that’s where she managed to achieve finding a committee aligned with different roles to help make the project a success. The student was able to identify the problem in the community hence she took steps to try and make this kind of project to benefit the community as whole. 2. Identification and analysis of the impediments: The purpose of this step is to identity and gain understanding of the nature of the social problems, social needs and/or the unutilised potential in the community that should be the focus of the attention. This should combine with a preliminary feasibility study. According to the case study the student gained the full understanding of the problem that challenged the community members by talking with the teachers individually and the principal and gained support too. The student became aware of the difficulties teachers experienced in teaching learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, overcrowding, lack of privacy, little stimulation inadequate transport, children falling asleep in class during lessons due to walking long distances and they were also affected by high rate of crime and abuse which lead to high rate failure and children dropping out of school on the other hand high rate of failure resulted in many children remaining in one class for a long time even exceeding the age that the class is suitable for.
