Introduction
The proposed study is aimed at evaluating the experiences of patients who have fully
recovered after antipsychotic treatment. To meet the study goals and aspirations, the proposed
study will integrate specific methods, approach, and design to conduct the study successfully. To
clearly outline the study methodology for the proposed study, the chapter will focus on
epistemology, sample and recruitment, measures, interviews, and analysis elements of the
proposed study.
Research Philosophy: Epistemology
Research philosophy addresses the development of knowledge and its nature (Ghauri &
Grønhaug, 2005). Knowledge development is aimed at answering a specific research problem in
a particularly setting or rather new knowledge development. There are important assumptions
made in the research philosophy that provide a worldview approach to research. Similarly,
epistemology refers to the assumptions about knowledge, which defines valid, acceptable and
legitimate knowledge acquisition and its communication (Creswell, 2002). In the proposed study,
the study focuses on evaluating experiences of people who have recovered from psychiatric
conditions after treatment using the antipsychotic medications. This means that potential biases
that could affect acceptance or validity of research findings are addressed by integrating
epistemological basis. There are two main epistemological views in research comprising of
positivism and interpretivist.
