ORGANIZATIONAL RISK MANAGEMENT INTERVIEW 2 Organizational Risk Management Interview The Interview In the following interview, I was the interviewer to the Risk Manager (Interviewee) at one of the Mayo Clinic hospitals. Interviewer: Tell me about Mayo Clinic. What is the company’s origin and what are some of the services it offers. Interviewee: Mayo Clinic is a health care system that provides a range of services including dissipation of medical information, overseeing research procedures and promotion of patients’ health. The organization began operating in 1992 and it delivers medical services in different U.S.’s cities including Wisconsin. Interviewer: In a bid to control infectious ailments, Mayo Clinic experiences a number of challenges. What are some of these challenges? Interviewee: Despite advancing efforts towards controlling infectious ailments, Mayo Clinic grapples with numerous challenges including stigmatization which makes it difficult for some patients to seek medical services. Still, the occurrence of new strains of infections and lack of dysfunctional public health programs hinders the ability of the organization to achieve its objectives of prevention and treatment of infections. Interviewer: What are some of the risk management strategies Mayo Clinic uses in its program to manage infections? Interviewee: The Health Care institution through public health managers identify high risk factors, areas and populations, and formulate preventive measures prior to implementation of the measures in practice. Interviewer: Are there any measures used by Mayo Clinic’s educational risk mitigation programs address main professional issues? Interviewer: Yes. The Mayo Clinic has an established program that promotes the knowledge of its workforce across a number of factors including teaching employees to maintain a strong work ethic which helps prevent incidences of negligence and malpractices. Interviewer: Has Mayo Clinic implemented policies that help manage emergency triage in high risk areas of health care service delivery? If yes, what are some of these policies? Interviewee: Yes. Among the health care policies the organization has implemented to address medical problems in high risk sections include measures such as prevention of incidences of falls among the elderly and patients with chronic medical conditions through helping them with walking aids and increasing staffing. Still, the institution requires medical providers to observe and maintain a high level of hygiene practice especially in surgical units to reduce infections. Interviewer: What are some of the strategies Mayo Clinic utilizes to monitor and maintains its risk management program? Interviewee: The organization performs a range of risk control and management procedures including utilizing the use of automated record keeping pertaining to the patients’ medical history. Still, Mayo Clinic shares information pertaining to the treatment and the condition of the patient with other medical institutions, a measure which helps monitor and manage patients’ medical conditions with some level of effectiveness.
