LEARNING ACTIVITY 2
ESSAY
Describe some aspects of your self-concept that have been created through social comparison. Write
down your thought and feelings in no less than 300 words.
Self concept is defined the way that we see our self. It is the picture that we have of ourselves that
can be develop by the influenced of our interactions with other people.
Social comparison is one way to develop our self concept. We develop the way we value
ourselves by how we compare, or measure up to others.
Everytime I see artists in television and see those beautiful faces and perfectly shaped-body, I told
to myself "I'm just like a dirt to their nails". But I made it as my motivation to become better version of
myself. I learned to groom and make myself good-looking. I realized and believe that we are all beautiful
in our own way.
In addition, when I was in elementary I'd always look up to our first honor. She was so competitive,
intelligent and hardworking while me on the other hand I neglected sometimes my study. I was just in
average level because I don't want to make myself tired just for my studies. Until I stepped in high
school, I started to study hard and prioritize my studies so that I became the top student in our class.
Other students said that they don't need high grades, instead they just need to passed. There's no
problem with that, but if you can make an effort to get high grades why don't try? For me, having high
grades is a way to makes my parents proud and happy. It's also a proof that I value my studies. I
priorities my education because as only student it's my way to pay back all the support and sacrifices of
my parents that they have given me. I also believe that education is my passport to my future. Education
is precious to me because it is my parent's heirloom that they can only give to me.
There are factors that affect and mold my self concept. My social interaction, the way I interact
with others help me shape my self. However, we don't need to compare ourselves to others. We have
our own belief, perspective and point of view in life. The important is we know how to respect other's
concept.
