Polynomials - Dividing Polynomials
Dividing polynomials by monomial
Dividing each term by the monomial and reducing the resulting expression. e.g.
Example 1;
divide each term by 3x2
Example 2;
divide each term by 4x2
Dividing polynomials by binomial
Example 1;
rewrite the polynomial expression
3x2 + 7x - 4
3
3 2 3𝑥
𝑥 − 4 3𝑥 − 5𝑥 − 32𝑥 + 7
𝑥
3 2
−3𝑥 +12𝑥
2 since subtraction, change the signs of each term
7𝑥 −32𝑥
2 2
−7𝑥 +28𝑥 7𝑥
Bring down the next term
−4𝑥+7 𝑥
+4𝑥−16 −4𝑥
`
−9 𝑥
-9 is the remainder, put over the divisor.
