Iran is one of the most luscious countries in the world but have been held back from this stereotype by lack of adequate water irrigation systems. The Bar Dam program was launched in 2007 and completed in 2013 and had the main purpose of supplying water to outlying regions so farming became an option to poorer residents. The Islamic Development Bank (n.d.) has supported this venture of the Iranian government with (technical) support, business connections and funds. Iran is a large country with a lot of hectares available for farming. Due to the precarious weather throughout the year, the land either has too little or too much rain. The building of the dam prevented the water from reaching the salt sea and serve as storage, while irrigation systems caused excess water to be drained during rain storms. I gave this project gold as it invests in both nature as well as people. You can catch a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, but if you teach a man how to fish, he can feed his family every day. This project shows that the real benefit helps people out of poverty by creating opportunity for growth and self-sufficiency. I believe in the use of good land and the deterrent for more people to move to the cities, which is a large problem all over the world. This project shows the best of what IFI’s can do. I see no negative side effects of this unless more environmental impact studies show otherwise. Silver – Bogota Metro line I chose this project because I have visited Bogota and could imagine the benefit
