1. How has the emergence of the Internet changed the way that organizations
plan and manage their human resource needs?
- The emergence of the Internet helped organizations in some ways in
corporate communications. Initially, key people of an organization,
though they are in several places of the world, meet and plan their
human resource needs through the use of computers and Internet
applications such as Skype, YM, and many others. Next, applicants
search job openings fitted to them and may send résumés through the
internet. This way also helps the organization to recruit, select and hire
applicants fitted to a particular job offering. It also helps the organization
to save money and time for the matter. Further, benefits and retirement
planning of employees are also managed through the use of an
organization’s HRIS, as stated in the article.
2. What kinds of future human resource activities might we see developed over
the next several years?
- From the article itself, I could envision that in the next several years, all
organizations, may it be small, medium or large organizations, would use
the Web in all their respective HR activities as well as managing and
planning their human resources demands. In the future I could see more
human resource training for employees online. This may also involve
different circumstances online and interactive programs to educate
employees on human resources within their organization.
3. What are the legal and ethical issues surrounding the use of the Internet by
individual employees for human resource activities? Are you concerned
about violations of your own privacy because of these kinds of Web
applications?
- Using the Internet for human resource activities can expose private
information to unauthorized people. Identity theft is a big current issue
and by using online human resource activities is only making easier for
people trying to steal someone’s identity. Although using the Internet for
human resources activities, it can cause problems for the individual
employees’ private information.
- Having a lot of my information online through work does concern me.
Especially because I don’t know how secure my employer keeps my
information. I am definitely worry about possibly having my identity
stolen or an unauthorized user viewing my private information.
4. What specialized skills will the future HRIS professional need in order to
effectively manage an organization’s virtual human resource function?
- Aside from having a good leadership skill, an HRIS professional should
also be an expert in the management of the system, have the ability to
attract and retain qualified employees as well as training and
