195 is the official number of countries we have in the world. Each individual country has its own
language, traditions, holidays and rules or so called laws. Every citizen of their country must obey the
laws of that country. In North Korea for instance wearing blue jeans is prohibited and in some parts
of Australia its illegal to dress up as Batman. The laws of a country are basically simple rules that
must be obeyed. But what if every law would lose its meaning? What would happen? And what
would be the consequences?
Since 2014 crime rates all around the world have been increased by 33%. However, here in the
Netherlands criminality has been decreased by 32% since 2010. If there were no laws, the crime rates
would skyrocket. People must have rules we mostly all agree upon in order to properly live and
function in a society. Rules provide a sense of predictability and consistency for citizens. Without this,
people will go ahead and do as they please. Even if it would hurt others or their selves. Because
people know that their actions won’t be judged, they would do things that they usually wouldn’t.
Because the criminality rates increase, the death rate would too. Laws provide a protection for our
general safety. Without this protection citizens could get injured by just taking a walk outside. You
can think of no laws as freedom, however many people tend to forget that this also means freedom
for killers, rapist and abusers etc. With this freedom people with bad intentions can do what they
want, whenever they want and they won’t face any justice. All of this would create chaos and every
single citizen would be terrified to leave their house.
Although there are a lot of disadvantages there are also some advantages. Because there are no
obligations, people do not have to pay taxes. This is a huge advantage for citizens with a low budget
or for family’s that do not have money to spare. Tax prices in various country can be remotely high.
Because citizens don’t have to pay them anymore they could spare money for their daily life. Also
without laws people gain more freedom. I’m not talking about people with bad intentions but about
creative people that couldn’t reach their dreams because of the laws. However we have to keep in
mind that these are only a couple of advantages and it doesn’t balance out with the huge amount of
disadvantages.
Overall I think that there are a lot of disadvantages for losing the laws. I believe that laws help us
function in this society and let us reach our goals without hurting ourselves or others. Furthermore I
think that some laws can be changed in a couple of countries. For now I think we should all accept
the rules of our own country and work together to keep this society from falling apart.
