Transition into the Professional Nursing Role After graduation this spring, this writer will be seeking employment in the state of Connecticut. In order to get licensed in the state of Connecticut, the writer must have graduated from an approved nursing program that meets the requirements. According to the Board of nursing the applicant must submit an application to the nursing regulatory body in which the applicant wishes to get licensed in. (NCSBN.org). In the state of Connecticut the regulatory body is the Department of Health. Once this writer graduates from the nursing program, the writers transcripts should be sent to the Connecticut Department of Health. Before, submitting an application to the Department of Health the writer must register with Pearson VUE to take the NCLEX-RN examination. The wonderful aspect of nursing is that there are so many job opportunities in different fields. As of now, the writer is interested in seeking employment in an emergency department, ICU, oncology, or medical-surgical unit. The writer will begin the search by using a job search engine. In this case the writer will be using Liquid compass to conduct the job search. Key words like, new graduate nurse and registered nurse positions in the state of Connecticut will be used to conduct the search. Nurse residency programs will be searched for as well. One position the writer is interested in is at Yale New Haven Hospital RN oncology service line. This hospital is looking to hire new graduate or experienced nurses to work on an oncology unit. The requirements are as followed, graduate of a BSN program, BLS certification required, and experience is preferred but not required. This job motivates the writer to apply because the hospital is well known and has a good reputation. This position specific courses to attend regarding oncology. This is beneficial to a newly graduate nurse to gain more knowledge and experience prior to practicing on the unit. Another motivator is their mission statement Career Planning 3 attracts the writer because the hospital goal is to deliver patient and family centered care, respect, integrity, accountability, and compassion. During nursing school the writer learned that all these essential components are important when caring for a patient. A detractor the writer has encountered is that the hospital will start the RN oncology service line program until September, 2019. Another position of interest is at Hartford Hospital as an emergency registered nurse. This hospital is looking to hire new graduate nurses and experienced nurses for a position in the emergency department. The applicants must have a current Connecticut RN license, graduate of an accredited nursing school, BSN required, BLS certification, and proof of arrhythmia certification required prior to date of hire. One motivator is that the hospital is very inviting and encourages applicants to apply. Another motivator is, that it is a level 1 trauma center. A detractor is that it is a far commute for the writer
