My teaching philosophy
I always wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. I always played
teacher-teacher with my friends and now I am studying to be one. I am
realizing my childhood dreams. I want to be a teacher to teach learners
what they need to know and guide them in life.
I would like to teach the grade 4’s because I had the privilege to be
mentored by a grade 4 teacher and spent time with grade 4 learners. I feel
that they have the most respect out all the intermediate phase grades. I
would like to teach Natural Science and Afrikaans. I feel most comfortable
teaching in my home language (being Afrikaans).
Learners learn best in a creative and comfortable environment. They also
want to work in groups for support. I believe that the most efficient way for
learners to learn is through group work.
Teaching should take place in an environment where every learner can be
comfortable and feel same. The environment should also be interesting and
creative for the learners. I also feel that teachers should be strict, but also
friendly with their learners so that they know what they are allowed to do
in class and what not to do. The teacher should be in control of their class.
They must take the lead.
I believe that teaching is the most important profession because without
basic education, there will be no doctors, no police men and women, no
pilots, etc. Everyone needs a basic education framework before they can go
for tertiary education or find a job. Teachers also lead the learners in the
right direction because not all learners are fortunate enough to have
supporting parents.
I believe I can make a difference by supporting my learners and giving
them the best education that I possibly can. I want to be their teacher but
also their leader.
