Guided Reflection Questions
Opening Questions
How did the simulated experience of Kim Johnson’s case make you feel?
I liked this vsim and I made a 100 the first time. I’m really starting to get into the hang of how things are
done and use critical thinking on what to do and how to read the order.
Talk about what went well in the scenario.
The catheterization went well. I may have contaminated the equipment the first time but discarded and
started again.
Reflecting on Kim Johnson’s case, were there any actions you would do differently if you were to repeat
the scenario? If so, how would your patient care change?
No.
Scenario Analysis Questions
PCC What priority problem(s) did you identify for Kim Johnson?
Paraplegia related to gunshot wound in T8
S Identify safety hazards in Kim Johnson’s patient care situation.
Equipment contamination, poor understanding of how to insert catheter on her own
S Identify potential complications from using improper sterile technique during intermittent
catheterization.
UTI,
PCC/T&C How would you would correct the nurse’s actions specific to the contamination of the sterile
field?
Make sure I didn’t continue and discard all equipment and gloves and start again to make sure the
patients care, and safety comes first
The Scenario Analysis Questions are correlated to the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN)
competencies: Patient-Centered Care (PCC), Teamwork and Collaboration (T&C), Evidence-Based Practice
(EBP), Quality Improvement (QI), Safety (S), and Informatics (I). Find more information at:
