So why is breastfeeding still such a nuisance to some? I understand that it makes some people uncomfortable to see a woman breastfeeding in public. However, breastfeeding is natural and most women have the courtesy to cover themselves with a blanket. It should be common knowledge by now that breast milk is the best source of food for babies. From the reading and research I have done for this post, it seems breastfeeding in the workplace is still an issue. At my hospital it is not an issue. This is probably because the manager is a woman, most of the staff consists of women, and half the floor was pregnant over the last year. There were so many pregnant women on my floor that they made a ‘breastfeeding in progress’ sign and it stays in the huddle room for whenever anyone needs it. The huddle room is the designated pumping area because it has a door and provides privacy. I could see there possibly being difficulties in other workplaces though, such as an office setting with a lot of male co-workers. According to Yimyam and Hanpa (2014), employers need to support the woman’s decision to breastfeed, they should provide a private area where the woman can pump their breast milk during working hours. There are now twenty-eight states that allow medical marijuana (, 2016). There are pros and cons to using medical marijuana but it seems there are more pros than there are cons. Marijuana contains components that help relieve pain. From what I have read the relief it provides is better than what is provided by opioids. Per the article sixty peer-reviewed studies (2016), medical marijuana provides relief to patients with conditions such as cancer, ALS, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, irritable bowel syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, crohn’s, post traumatic stress disorder, rheumatoid arthritis, Tourette’s syndrome, schizophrenia, and psychosis. Marijuana can help stimulate appetite, increase sleep, help relieve depression and anxiety, relieve nausea and vomiting, help with muscle relaxation and spasms, and pain (, 2016). I agree with you that in order to expand the research on stem cells, it takes an understanding of society and of the religious implications while maintaining the importance of developing ways to treat disease. While I believe religion is important, the medical side of me fully supports stem cell research. Without stem cell research, we run the risk of not discovering new medical evidence.
