PRE-SPANISH PERIOD
A. THE FIRST FILIPINOS
- came from the family of Austronesians (Indos, Malays, and Negritos)

- April 27, 1521 - Magellan and his 100 soldiers fought Lapu-lapu and 1,000
soldiers
- 1543 - Spanish explorer Ruy Lopez de Villalobos named the archipelago the Las
Islas Filipinas in honor of Philip II
- February 13, 1565 - Spanish colonialism began with the arrival of Miguel Lopez
de Legazpi from Mexico
