Exam (elaborations) NRS 490 Nursing Manager Skills Inventory
Exam (elaborations) NRS 490 Nursing Manager Skills Inventory In recent times, studies have revealed that professional competency and accountability impacts greatly on shaping our careers. This involves adherence to set code of conducts within the practice of various disciplines including nursing, accounting, engineering among others (Ewoh ,2013). Nevertheless, we also have to inculcate in us desirable values that will bring the most in us in our careers. This plays a significant role in determining our productivity which impacts on our personal career disciplines. For this essay, I will reflect on my personal career by identifying the strengths and weaknesses with key focus on the tenets of nurse inventory skills. By and large, I have been above average when it comes to professional and personal accountability. For the former, I will use the variables of time and money to rate myself. On majority of occasions, I am a good time-keeper because in the events that I usually attend, I am always in time. Notably is the report time to my work-place which is at 7.00 am but I always arrive earlier than this time. Being a nursing practitioner, I usually have to balance between strict timelines and the demands of the profession which has made me understand why the phrase “time is money was coined”. There are also other times when am called on shift to attend to certain emergency cases that are booked in the hospital and given that I do not stay far way, I arrive on time (Ewoh,2013). I am not the best accounting manager when it comes to my own personal finances. I always find myself spending too much on “wants” rather “needs”. For example, I find it difficult to live within my monthly wages and in most cases, I usually run out of money before the month ends forcing me to seek credit elsewhere to sustain me. With regards to career planning, I am certainly on the right track but there is still room for improvement. Evidently, I am a nursing graduate and got employment within the first few years of leaving school which is commendable, owing to the high rates of unemployment in America. (Furman, 2016). I have worked as a nursing professional for a few years now and just This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :44:21 GMT -05:00 This study resource was shared via CourseH NURSING 3 recently I was promoted to a supervisory role for the commendable work that I have been doing. Some of the skills I have been commended for include leadership skills, where I have always stood in for the hospital manager whenever he is away. I am also a member of the Nursing Association within our state and I intend to vie for a leadership position in the body. However, I feel that I should diversify my career ambitions so that I can learn more. Notably, I am planning to pursue an MBA course which will nurture my skills and competencies for future managerial positions that will come my way (Taylor ,2016). Additionally, I plan to pursue a post-graduate degree in nursing which should make me as competitive as possible in the nursing discipline. Having a blend of the mentioned academic qualifications, work experience skills, and competencies will position me for other opportunities within the corporate sector. My personal journey chronicles I can say has been above average. This has been contributed by work-ethos values that I have inculcated in me which include competency, willingness to learn, professionalism, and accountability (Taylor ,2016). Other than my role as a nurse, I have challenged myself and learnt one or two things in medicine surgery and pharmacy. During my flexible time at work, I occasionally visit our hospital pharmacist who is my good friend and he has taught me how to mix some combinations of drugs to produce desired solutions. This knowledge has assisted me a lot and I remember standing for him for a couple of hours when he was away attending an important function. Also, my leadership ability has endeared me to my manager who delegates to me the management responsibilities whenever he is out of office (Taylor ,2016). I have also nurtured my skills in people management and patient satisfaction which is imperative for enhancing patient satisfaction in a medical set-up. I attribute my career success majorly due to my passion to save human lives. As a nurse, I have inculcated in me values like humility, empathy, and competence which is critical to This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :44:21 GMT -05:00 This study resource was shared via CourseH NURSING 4 upholding the ethical values in nursing (Ewoh ,2013). My role as a nurse has enabled me learn a lot about how to relate with patients from all spheres. Additionally, I have learnt a lot about team-work and the importance of embracing cultural diversity in my work-place which is critical for effective leadership. In summative, according to the Nurse Manager Inventory Skills, I think I have performed above average. Notably, this is evidenced by being able to get the best of
