Purpose
This week's graded topics relate to the following Course Outcomes (COs).
CO 1: Examine the sources of evidence that contribute to professional nursing practice.
(PO 7)
CO 2: Apply research principles to the interpretation of the content of published research
studies. (PO 4 & 8) Your text here 1
CO 4: Evaluate published nursing research for credibility and clinical significance related
to evidence-based practice. (PO 4 & 8)
Week 3: Assigned Readings

Discussion
You must access the following article to answer the questions:

confused? MedSurg Nursing, 24(1), 15-22. permalink (Links to an external site.)
Locate the literature review section. Summarize using your own words from one of the
study/literature findings. Be sure to identify which study you are summarizing.
Discuss how the author’s review of literature (studies) supported the research
purpose/problem. Share something that was interesting to you as you read through the
literature review section.
Describe one strategy that you learned that would help you create a strong literature
review/search for evidence. Share your thoughts on the importance of a thorough review
of the literature.
Professor,
In the selected article, the authors describe Fink and co-authors review of the nurses’ ability to
evaluate and distinguish the differences of dementia, delirium superimposed on dementia (DSD)
and hypoactive dementia in patients. I felt the author strongly outlined all the major aspects of
the study by stating the population (29 nurses), purpose (can the nurses evaluate/differentiate
between the DSD, hyperactive and hypoactive delirium and dementia and measure
geropsychiatric knowledge), Intervention (tested knowledge using Mary Starke Harper Aging
Knowledge Exam- MSHAKE), Comparison (previous, unevaluated knowledge of diagnosis and
treatment plan), and outcome (determining if nurses could recognize/identify each condition).
(Baker, Taggart, Nivens, & Tillman., 2015)
The authors’ review of literature discussed a research problem which was the nurse’s ability to
properly diagnose and treat the different dementia related disorders. As the text states, “A
problem statement are declarations of disparity between what is known and what needs to be
