Adolph Hitler’s humble beginnings were as an average child from a lower-middle-class up-

bringing in his homeland of Austria. His harsh, authoritarian father set him on a path to bureau-

cracy. Adolph infamously failed to gain entry to art-school, and would later on tale control of the

entirely of Germany as part of a mission to both seize power and ethnically cleanse the continent.

Hitler’s childhood was unremarkable. Little is known or noted about his formative years,

though it is suggested he faced physical abuse at the hands of his father. His adolescence was one

of notable solitude, and he had few if any friends. He did not complete high school, and spent

1905 to 1907 living off of his mother. He applied to art school but was denied entry, as his paint-

ings were deemed “mediocre at best”, and his drawings were judged “unsatisfactory.” He would

later refer to this rejection as “a bolt from the blue,” in Mein Kampf. Not one to take rejection

well, he remained convinced of his success, and although he re-applied at later dates, he was

never granted admission. After moving from one cheap rented room to the next, he eventually

moved into a homeless shelter. His only success as an artist came from producing watercolor

paintings he copied from postcards and selling them to tourists (Pruitt, 2013). He painted by day

and studied his collection of books by night. After moving to Munich, he made a decent living

selling city-scenes, but this ended for him after Munich police nabbed him for failing to register

for the draft.

Adolph Hitler failed to be deemed fit-for-service, due to his failure of the military entrance

exam and inability to properly fire a weapon. He would, however, voluntarily enlist at the onset

of World War I. This changed the trajectory of Hitler’s life from lackluster artist to aspiring-

politician. After Germany’s defeat, Hitler gained employment in the military intelligence field in

Munich; a position which would set him on a collision course with the German Worker’s Party
