Guided Reflection Questions
Opening Questions
How did the simulated experience of Brenda Patton’s case make you feel?
This vSim made me nervous particulary because I have absolutely no experience with someone other
than myself who has been in maternity or labor.Coming into a vSim with a pregnant woman moaning in
pain was certaintly different, but I tried to ensure my assessment was thorough and appropriate.
Describe the actions you felt went well in this scenario.
I think I did well in terms of continuing what I have learned in nursing school so far, such as performing
vitals on the Pt, understanding diseases, pt teaching, and providing support.
Scenario Analysis Questions*
EBP What complications can occur if group B streptococcus is not treated?
Sepsis, pneumonia, meningitis
PCC What should be included in the priority teaching for Brenda Patton?
Screening for GBS during the antepartal period is critical and treatment prophylactically with antibiotics,
like penicillin, ampicillin, 1st- generation cephalosporins
T&C What key elements would you include in the handoff report for this patient? Consider the
situation-background-assessment-recommendation (SBAR) format.
The approximate time her water broke, her level of pain, vital signs, dilation, position of fetus, and that
the pt was started on penicillin as per order.
S/QI Based on your experience with Brenda Patton’s case, reflect on possible nursing actions for
enhanced safety and quality improvement.
Efficiently during assessment of the patient and closely monitoring due to the strep coming back
positive. Also, providing pt education and ensuring she is understanding due to her pain, stress,
and situation.
