The simulated experience of Sara Lin’s case made me feel a little overwhelmed at first, but as I navigated
the program and learned how to use it I became more comfortable.

In this scenario Sara Lin expressed some postoperative pain and trouble breathing. I was able to
successfully lower the severity of her pain via PRN medication. I also showed her the spirometer to help

If I were to repeat Sara Lin’s case, I would use gloves during the abdominal assessment as that is where I

fell short in the evaluation feedback. Beyond that I think my patient care was appropriate.

To assist with pain control, Sara Lin’s education plan should include information about her pain
medications, aftercare, and activities she should and should not perform.

As far as postoperative incision care, Sara Lin should be educated on signs of infection, when and how to
change the dressing, how to shower/ perform ADLs safely during recovery. She should also be
made aware of activities she can do and those she should temporarily limit.
