EBP/PCC Describe the components of a focused cardiovascular assessment.
The components of a focused cardiovascular assessment include asking the patient if he has chest
pain, shortness of breath, edema, cough, fatigue, leg pain, swelling, and history of past
illnesses and injury. Inspect the neck, thorax, arms and legs, capillary refill for cyanosis.
Auscultate the heart and lung and watch out for abnormal sounds. Get the radial and pedal
pulse.
PCC What cardiovascular assessment findings were significant for Jared Griffin?
Patient had irregular heart sounds. He had knee pain of a scale of 3/10.

Situation Jared Griffin is a 63-year-old male that came
in this morning for a right total knee
arthroplasty. After Mr. Griffin’s PT, he stated
that he was not feeling well. He said that his
heart is skipping.

mild hypertension and irregular heart rhythm.
He is a carrier of MRSA and is currently
under contact precautions.
