CASE STUDY
I. Key Issues
Anna is a 34 year old female who is married with 2 children. She has been referred for
assistance with several key issues.
1. Anna complains of a depressed mood and has expressed having low energy and
difficulty getting out of bed for work and other activities.
2. Anna has excessive guilt and feelings of worthlessness.
3. Anne has increased her consumption of alcohol.
4. Anna has trouble concentrating at work and her performance has declined.
The rationale for the order in the above list was based on the severity of the issues that Anna
faces. Not desiring to get out of bed, having a regular depressed mood, and being low on energy
are fundamental and functional life issues that need to be looked at initially. I believe the key
focus and the goals for the outcome of treatment would be to help Anna stabilize her mood,
increase energy, and help with her general outlook on life. The identification of any triggers that
bring about her mood destabilization will be evaluated. Additionally, helping her to understand
how the recent increase in consumption of alcohol is contributing to her mental health struggles.
Once she is able to stabilize her mood and alcohol consumption, Anna should be able to start to
regain the function she previously experienced in work, relationships, and parenting.
Additionally, she will be able to learn better coping skills to avoid future struggles in these areas.
