, Week 8 Reflection Assignment 2
Over the past eight weeks this class has been challenging, to say the least, but I am
thankful for the challenge. I have learned a lot from this advanced pharmacology course, such as
many different medications and diagnoses, and how to apply them in different case studies. I also
explored major pharmacological groups of medications with their pharmacokinetics,
pharmacodynamics, and their reasons for use among children, pregnant and lactating women,
and older populations. This course has been helpful, not only in being able to recognize which
pharmacological treatments are appropriate, but also in researching common diseases and the
appropriate drugs to use. The accomplishment of the course outcomes has prepared me in
meeting the MSN program outcomes. For example, one of the program outcomes is to be able to
provide high quality, safe, patient-centered care grounded in holistic health principles (Course
syllabus, 2020). Over the past eight weeks, we had discussion boards in which the class had to
provide answers and responses to the threaded questions on how we would treat and prescribe
drugs using patient-centered care for different patient scenarios. Clinicians can practice with a
patient centered approach that involves their lifestyle, religious preferences, emotional needs,
values, care, as well as treating the individual with dignity and respect. It encourages patients to
live a better lifestyle, be more involved in decision making, and has a positive impact on their
health outcome. This will lead the clinician to a better plan of care that meets the patient’s needs.
This course has helped to prepare me for my future role as an NP, and I am confident in the
learning and knowledge I have gained. Nurse Practitioners are faced with many difficult
problems in primary care daily, and having a good knowledge about pharmacology and being
self-confident is very important in better meeting the patient’s needs and making their experience
more pleasant.
