Week 1: Identification of Area of Interest
.
For this discussion the focus is on presenting the area of interest for the evidence-based practice
proposal that is required for this course.
1. State your area of research or evidence-based practice (EBP) interest from NR 500;
remember that the topic must be consistent with your specialty track.
2. State your MSN program specialty track and defend how your selected area of research
or EBP interest from NR 500 is consistent with your selected MSN program track.
3. Would you like to change your area of research or EBP interest from NR 500? Why or
why not?
4. If you changed or modified your area of research or EBP interest, please identify the
revised area of research.
5. Defend how your area of research/EBP interest is of importance to the MSN program
specialty track you have selected—scholarly references are required.
6. Identify an initial PICOT/PICo question that reflects you area of interest for the evidence-
based practice proposal that is required for this course.
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is not new for the society is just the new way of calling something that it
has been in practice since Florence Nightingale; she started by implementing ways of care to the patient
back then. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the conscientious and judicious use of current best evidence
in conjunction with clinical expertise and patient values to guide health care decisions. (Cook D 1998).
EBP is a process that refers to the integrations of currents best evidence in the decision-making when
caring for patients; it is more like a problem-solving approach in the clinical practice. Based on the
American Association of college of Nursing, EBP is a process that fills the gaps in knowledge from the
literature research and utilizing the best evidence for the nursing practice to resolve the problems and
clinical decisions making.
The specialty tract that I pick is FNP. As FNP I can work in a primary patient care and provide health
promotion, health maintenance, counseling, patient education, diagnosis and treatments to acute or
chronic illness, because as a FNP besides me treating the illness I will take in place the patient’s values
and goals as well. As well as a FNP, I will have more control over the patients care, and my voice as a
nurse will be heard. And the beauty of FNP is the variety of roles you can play during you career, never
will be a trapped career because you can move around and find the specialty that fill your heart. I realize
better for me to become a FNP than midwifery for the same reason, being trapped or being able to move
