MRI OF LUMBAR SPINE
PROCEDURE
Using the spine coil images of the lumbar spine were acquired in sagittal T1 & T2 followed by
transaxial T1 and T2 at the IV disc levels. In addition coronal STIR images of spine were also
obtained.
FINDINGS
Loss of normal lumbar spinal curvature is seen.
Paradiscal osteophytes with type-II endplate changes are seen in lumbar vertebrae.
Heterogeneously hyperintense marrow signal on both T1W & T2W images with signal
suppression on T2W fat suppression images suggestive of fatty marrow changes noted in lumbar
vertebrae.
Otherwise vertebral bodies show normal alignment, morphology & marrow signal intensity on
T1 & T2WI.
Variable loss of normal T2 bright signal of multiple lumbar discs suggestive of variable disc
desiccation seen.
No significant disc protrusion/bulge causing compressive neuropathy appreciated.
Spinal cord & dural sac shows normal morphology & signal intensity on T1 & T2WI.
Signal from conus medullaris and nerve roots forming the cauda equina is unremarkable.
Posterior osseous elements & soft tissues are normal.
No pre/paravertebral soft tissue collection seen.
IMPRESSION:
Spondylo disco degenerative changes in lumbar spine.
