How did the simulated experience of Randy Adams’ case make you feel?
It made me further understand the support veterans need when they come from being in combat. I kept
in mind that differentiating between his concussion and his PTSD symptoms was very important in
assessing him and providing optimal care.
Talk about what went well in the scenario.
He was responsive to the responses I gave and had a sense of hope that there were treatment plans for
him as well as his family in order to overcome his PTSD and begin to live a happier and more productive
life.
Reflecting on Randy Adams’ case, were there any actions you would do differently? If so, what were
these actions and why?
I would have dimmed the lights due to his light sensitivity from his concussion. Also, teach relaxation
techniques in order to help him with his anxiety.

PCC/S What could occur if Randy Adams kept taking his sumatriptan succinate?
It would cause more noise and light sensitivity which would also make his headache worse.
PCC/I Discuss the types of support groups and resources that would be beneficial to Randy Adams
and his family.
Group therapy with other veterans who have been through similar or the same experiences as Mr.
Adams, so he would feel like he isn’t alone and would have a chance to express his thoughts and feelings
with those who can understand. Family counseling would be beneficial as well so his wife can obtain a
better understanding of what her husband his going through and ways in which she can cope too.
I What benefit services are available for veterans with PTSD?
The VA hospital has the ability to treat veterans with PTSD and usually is run by veterans themselves as
well as it being inclusive to all branches of the military.
PCC What discharge teaching needs to be given to Randy Adams’ wife related to his care?
Discharge teaching needs for Mr. Adams wife, Joy would be for her watch for signs of a worsening
headache and an increase an irritability. Also, make sure his medications are taken as the doctor has
