I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Analyzes the main cultural strata in selected societies of the Third World. Emphasizes their
unique historical background and development, their traditional ethos, national
characteristics, family structures and religious beliefs, as well as their political, economic,
and foreign policy views.
II. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon the successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
a. Identify the sociological terms, concepts, and issues currently related to the study of

developing nations, and discuss the varied impact of modernization on developing
countries that are mainly agricultural.
b. Recognize the impact of environmental degradation and population explosion on the
quality of life of both developing countries and the industrial world.
