Family Health Assessment 2
The health outcomes of a family are subject to multiple factors. These include the
environment, health standards, lifestyle, personal factors, and so forth. According to the World
Health Organization (WHO), the main determinants of health can be segmented into factors like
the physical environment, the social and economic environment, and personal/individual
characteristics, as well as behaviors. Nonetheless, the context of the life that people lead tend to
determine their health outcomes, therefore, individual factors do not have much weight on the
health outcomes of the people. These factors also apply to the health status of the families as
well. As a result, this paper will identify the social determinant of health (SDOH) contributing to
the family’s health status, as well as recommend health promotion strategies that will help
improve these health issues.
Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)
According to Braveman, Egerter, and Williams (2011) define social determinants of
health as environmental conditions in which people (in this case families) learn, live, work play,
age, and worship that affect health, quality-of-life, and functioning risks, as well as outcomes.
These social determinants include the level of education, culture, language, access to healthcare,
quality of education, availability of resources, social support, social norms and attitudes, and so
forth. The interview and evaluation conducted in Topic 2 reveal some of the social determinants
of health that have influenced the health status of the Jones family. First, the Jones’ perfect
health is determined by their access to health care services. Generally, their access to health is
subject to the fact that the company belongs to the middle-class. Mr. Jones has a stable income
from his job as an IT expert within the city. One of the other major social determinants of health
is the availability of daily needs, for instance, safe housing and availability of local markets,
