1 EXERCISRE SUMMARY OVERVIEW
An overview, analysis and evaluation of SNHUEnergy Inc network architecture assessment,
future network expansion assessment, recommendations and suggestions to address potential
network performance issues and security.
According to the case study, SNHUEnergy is a mid-sized oil and gas company focused
on exploration and drilling of oil products and intends to expand its services to transportation and
refinement of discoveries and opening more locations. The company currently has it
headquarters in Dallas Texas and another location in Memphis with a total employed count of
120 expected to grow by 50% in 24 months. Presently the network infrastructure is setup on a
single building of multiple floors with different departments (HR, IT, Accounting, Operations
and Payroll) with plans open two more location in Kansas City and Houston.
The present network infrastructure has been accessed to ascertain necessary changes, to
the current network physical devices, consider the appropriate network architecture for future
expansion, improve and ensure optimal network performance by putting reliability, resilience,
scalability, application data usage and security into consideration while designing the network
architecture.
For the future network we have recommend the implementation of WAN network
architecture to connect the present locations Dallas and Memphis with the two proposed
locations Houston and Kansas City. I have also recommended the implementation of Software as
a service cloud (SaaS) to provide a cost-effective scalability of the current infrastructure thus
creating a hybrid network infrastructure interconnected through a secure virtual private network.

The WAN will consist of the LAN networks and the SaaS cloud services using TCP/IP protocol.
All communication needs including application accessibility like the VOIP and security standard
implementation have been fully addressed to ensure end to end communication between all
locations.
2 CURRENT NETWORK ARCHITECTURE - NETWORK APPLICATIONS
Network applications are applications which either the software program or data the
users work with or even both reside on a network. These network applications usually utilize the
client-server architecture in which the client and server are both computers connected to a
network and the server is setup/programmed to provide some service to the client. They are
software applications the make use of the internet or other forms of network infrastructure/
hardware to for it functionalities.
Pure network applications and Standalone network applications are the two types of network
applications. Pure network applications are solely created to run on networks, e.g. Email clients
like outlook express, telnet and instant messengers while standalone applications need a network
to extend its functionality like Microsoft excel and word processors (Kamau, 2017).
Looking at the SNHUEnergy,Inc, physical Network design, the Dallas office uses about
four(4) network applications (Email, Payroll, Accounting, HR) and the Memphis office run
Two(2) network applications (Billing and Operations) respectively.
It is important to understand the network application environment as it is essential to its
performance. We have to consider three key areas to understand this:
