Network Applications
Network applications are applications which either the software program or data the
users work with or even both reside on a network. These network applications usually utilize the
client-server architecture in which the client and server are both computers connected to a
network and the server is setup/programmed to provide some service to the client. They are
software applications the make use of the internet or other forms of network infrastructure/
hardware to for it functionalities.
Pure network applications and Standalone network applications are the two types of network
applications. Pure network applications are solely created to run on networks, e.g. Email clients
like outlook express, telnet and instant messengers while standalone applications need a network
to extend its functionality like Microsoft excel and word processors (Kamau, 2017).
Looking at the SNHUEnergy,Inc, physical Network design, the Dallas office uses about
four(4) network applications (Email, Payroll, Accounting, HR) and the Memphis office run
Two(2) network applications (Billing and Operations) respectively.
It is important to understand the network application environment as it is essential to its
performance. We have to consider three key areas to understand this:
● Network Environment: Comprises the network geography with respect to the end users
and application locations and the network design to support it.
● Application mix: Implies the understanding of the number, type and resources
consumed.
