Course Catalog Description:
This course focuses on the care of adult patients experiencing common and less complex acute health
problems. Learners are challenged to use critical thinking skills guided by established professional
standards, guidelines, competencies, and best practices. Clinical experiences provide learners the
opportunity to apply psychomotor skills, psychosocial concepts, communication, legal and ethical
responsibilities, and the nursing process to provide safe, quality, patient-centered nursing care for adult
patients.

1. Safe, Patient-Centered Care – Provide safe, patient-centered nursing care using evidence-based
practice while managing multiple patients.
2. Caring Behaviors – Integrate caring behaviors when managing nursing care for diverse patients,
families, and communities.
3. Communication – Integrate effective communication skills to promote safety and support decision
making while managing patient care.
4. Clinical Judgment – Incorporate clinical judgment to ensure quality outcomes when managing
patient care.
5. Collaboration – Participate in collaborative relationships to improve patient outcomes when
managing nursing care for diverse patients, families, and communities.
6. Leadership – Integrate leadership skills in a variety of healthcare settings when managing care for
diverse patient populations.

Course Student Learning Outcomes (CSLOs):
1. Demonstrate safe patient-centered nursing care using evidence-based practice for patients
experiencing common and less complex acute health problems. (PSLO 1)
2. Demonstrate caring behaviors when providing nursing care to patients experiencing common and
less complex acute health problems. (PSLO 2)
3. Demonstrate effective communication skills to promote safety and support decision making when
caring for patients experiencing common and less complex acute health. (PSLO 3)
4. Apply clinical judgment to ensure quality outcomes when caring for patients experiencing common
and less complex acute health problems. (PSLO 4)
5. Determine collaborative relationships needed to provide and improve care for patients experiencing
common and less complex acute health problems. (PSLO 5)
6. Develop leadership skills required to provide care for patients experiencing common and less
complex acute health problems. (PSLO 6)

Course Requirements:
1. Achieve a minimum cumulative course grade of 74%.
2. Achieve a minimum benchmark score of 63.3% (equivalent to a Level 2) on the ATI RN Fundamentals
Practice Assessments A and B.
3. Achieve a Level 2 or higher on the ATI RN Fundamentals Proctored Assessment.
4. Complete the assigned two (2) PassPoint quizzes with a mastery level of four (4) on each quiz.
5. Achieve a score of 90% or higher on the dosage calculation test.
6. Achieve a “Pass” on each written assignment.
7. Achieve a minimum of a ‘satisfactory’ (‘S’) on the clinical evaluation.
8. Achieve a “Pass” on each of the Competency Performance Examinations (CPEs).
9. Achieve a “Pass” on all weekly discussions.
