, Art Creation- Music/Dance/Poetry 2
According to Jacobus and Martin (2019), music is one of the most powerful of the arts
partly because sounds- more than any other sensory stimulus- create in us involuntary reactions,
pleasant or unpleasant. Dance is an interpretation of music and music gives meaning to poetry.
Many people are attracted to the basics of music such as the tone, the rhythm, melodies and
harmonies and look at the lyrics and really hear them later and if makes it so much more
powerful and impactful. Many artists use their music as therapy without knowing it is therapy for
many others as well. I believe that’s what Michael Jackson did with his music and specifically
the piece written about in this paper. Michael Jackson began his career as a young child at the
age of 11 (Vincent, 2020). He was changing the world with his siblings in Jackson 5 without
even knowing how influenced everyone was by himself. His career and journey make the song
discussed next in the paper so much more important.
“Black & White” by Michael Jackson
I took my baby on a Saturday bang
Boy is that girl with you?
Yes, we're one and the same
Now I believe in miracles
And a miracle has happened tonight
But, if you're thinking about my baby
It don't matter if you're black or white
They print my message in the Saturday Sun
I had to tell them
I ain't second to none
