, Conference Venues
Conference Venues are not always built for that
purpose.
Many are converted from buildings whose
primary function was not that of conferences.
Some venues are unsuited for their job.
There are three groups of stakeholders who
should influence the design of conference areas:
architects, operators and delegates.
These stakeholders might have incompatible
aims.
When addressing the conference area design, it is
crucial to address ‘who’ it is designed for. This
becomes the purpose of the conference venue
2
, Objectives of Conference Areas
A conference has many roles, both formal
and informal, and each has a design
implication.
The Generation and Exchange of
Information and Ideas
This is the most crucial element and generally
the main reason for holding conferences, many
of which have an educational or training role.
The Enhancement of Communication
Clarity of Communication is considered to be a
significant outcome of conferences.
Communication may be more direct from
managers to staff than in normal workplace
environment. Creates shared knowledge and 3
values through improved communication.
