The planning process consists of:
• establishing the current position of an organisation,
• determining its future desired position,
• and the methods needed to achieve it.
Planning process is concerned with the ends and the
means to achieve those ends.
In event management, proper planning is also
essential.
Planning is a process that must continuously occur
until the end of the event.
It is important to have the following as a foundation
for this ongoing planning:
• a vision, a statement, or concept that can be easily
understood and implemented.

• The purpose of the event

• Create your critical path – working backwards
from date of event – use deadline dates
• Create your function sheet – to be done by
only one person and same person to deal
with suppliers and finalising the plan
• Timing is everything- time of year, day, day
of the week, date selection
