BUS303 Week 2 Discussion 2, Employee Selection Methods What are the goals of employee selection? Compare and contrast two selection methods and how these selection methods impact the achievement of organizational objectives? The goals of employee selection are to find the best candidate suitable for the job. Youssef mentions several selection methods employers should use to find their ideal candidate. These selection methods include resumes and application forms, testing, interviews, reference checks, and honesty tests, medical exams and drug testing. Two of the commonly most reliable methods are interviews and drug testing. Interviews is one of the selection methods that employers use as a way to interact with future employees. “Many employers prefer to directly interact with their future employees, usually face to face, for a more accurate evaluation of their communication skills, interpersonal skills, and technical experience and knowledge” (Youssef, 2015). There are several types of interviews that an organization may use such as unstructured, structured, situational, behavioral description and in panel interviews. Drug testing is another selection methods that employers use. “Employers are often also expected to employ honest and safe behavioral practices inside and outside of the organization-for instance by never using drugs” (Youssef, 2015). Employers often rely on this method because it is accurate and reliable for exposing substance abuse, but some individuals think of it as a controversial privacy invasion that can lead to false accusations of substance abuse. These selection methods impact the achievement of organizational objectives in a positive way. Both methods let the employer get to know the candidate that they are potentially hiring. Some of the other methods do not give an opportunity to meet face to face or provide reliable information. Youssef, C. (2015). Human resource management. (2nd ed.).
