Incivility as an Issue
Incivility can be defined as “the quality or state of being uncivil; a rude or discourteous
act.” (Incivility, 2017). Acts may include degrading or controlling another individual’s behavior.
Incivility can be expressed through behaviors that exhibit and “promote conflict while increasing
stress among individuals” (Blevins, 2015). The conduct may consist of lying, gossiping,
complaining, insubordination, abusive language, intimidation, and scapegoating. This deviant
