Nursing Practice
Information Management can help nurses prepare for clinical practice. Simulations are
extremely beneficial, offering a controlled learning experience free of risk. They afford the
opportunity to take what is in known in theory and apply it to reality (McGonigle & Mastrian,
2015). It provides opportunities to practice skills in a supportive environment that can engage
one's technical skills and collaborative skills. These opportunities that are provided by these
simulations encourage comfort in learning, as they remove the fear of making an error since their
is no patient involved. In addition, because the simulations put students through a variety of
scenarios, students gain confidence that they are more prepared to handle real situations when
they arise in practice. It allows them to learn from their choices, and more importantly, their
errors. Simulation learning has been found to reduce the chance of the learner making the same
error when working with a patient. Also, evidence indicates that students who participate in
high-reliability simulations are more aware of safety issues associated to patients in a clinical
environment (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2015).
Information management technologies also has the potential to help vulnerable
populations in the future. One example is EHRs helping healthcare providers have better insight
into the patient. Studies have found that vulnerable populations are less likely to have a primary
care physician, less likely to seek medical attention regularly, and more likely to have a chronic
