Introduction
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the major
operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services (CDC organization,
2020). The CDC mission is to support health promotion, prevention, and preparedness by
fighting all disease and supporting communities within the United States. To accomplish this,
the CDC conducts critical science and provides health information that protects our nation
against dangerous health threats, and takes action when these arise. Also, through various
public health initiatives, such as vaccine promotion, infectious disease prevention, and
management of chronic disease (Schmidt, 2016). As the nation’s health protection agency,
CDC saves lives, protects people from health threats, and improves overall public health.
The association’s vision is to protect public health and safety in the 21st century. They
will achieve this goal by fighting global disease threats through computing and lab analysis to
quickly find solutions. Another initiative is tracking disease, cause, and the most effective ways
to prevent it. Also, increase national security by detecting and confronting new germs and
diseases. The CDC brings new knowledge to health care and community health to save more
lives and reduce waste. They hope to nurture public health by building contributions to have
strong public health leaders and capabilities to protect Americans from health threats (CDC
organization, 2020).

In 2015, CDC released the Community Health Improvement Navigator to
facilitate the community health needs assessment and development of plans to address
