• “Our management schools have done an admirable job of training the
organization’s specialists – management scientists, marketing
researchers, accountants and organizational development specialists.
But for the most part they have not trained managers. Management
schools will begin the serious training of managers when skills training
take a serious place next to cognitive learning. ” Mintzberg, 1975, p61
• Tools of the past are inadequate for contemporary challenges of
management -- The Hungry Spirit -Charles Handy
• Shift from merely knowledgeable management scholars to creative,
talented, branded (business) leaders
, Aim & Rationale of the module
• Analytical and quantitative skills emphasized by functional disciplines
remain an important component of management education. However, the
development of interpersonal and personal skills, such as self-awareness,
communication skills, and presentation skills, are increasingly critical to a
manager’s success regardless of one’s technical specialization.
• This module focuses on the practical aspect of managing, and seeks to
enshrine you with the skill sets you need to be an effective, efficient and
competent manager
• Each session will offer you an opportunity to “assess”, “analyze”,
“practice”, “learn”, and “apply” requisite skills to your own work or life
situation so that you can turn good ideas into effective practice
