Marijuana should be in Medicinal use, but not in recreational structure
Marijuana has been legalized in some states of the U.S.A. since the early 1990s,
however, in both medicinal and recreational structures. The lawmaker firmly believed that
using marijuana can boosts the economy. This can be proven through the data collected that
there are millions of dollars added to the federal taxes paid by cannabis businesses. However,
there are still cons that we need to consider.
The legalization of marijuana can be pro to medicinal use, but should not be applied
as recreational use. We are pro-life and to economic growth, but having a good development
in the economy should not compromise the health of the society. The law, as a result, leads to
an increasing number of teens using this substance which brings harm to them. According to
a study by The American Academy of Pediatrics, marijuana is very dangerous to young users
as human brains are not fully developed until around age 25. This will result in impaired
short-term memory and decreased concentration, attention span, and problem-solving,
alterations in motor control, coordination, judgment, reaction time, etc.
The increasing number of people using marijuana also leads to an increasing number
of criminalities, and accidents, and deaths. As people will lose control of their emotions when
high, they will not hesitate to do criminal acts as they are not in their state of mind. Plus,
when driving under the influence of marijuana will surely result in road accidents, which is
proven in the data of AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, which reported that fatal crashes
involving marijuana doubled when the States legalized the use of it in a recreational way.
Indeed, we will not question the need for marijuana in medicinal use as we already
stand for pro-life, however, governments in each country should think twice about the
legalization of it through recreational use as we saw evidence on where it will lead from the
countries that already impose its legality.
