, Incubation process
The incubation process takes place through 3 main stages (Pre-incubation,
incubation, post-incubation stage) through which, startups are provided with
the necessary support to be strongly qualified to start their own business.
The incubation process:

- Innovation - Access to finance - Innovation
assessment - Coaching and diagnostics
- Business plan mentoring - Internationalization
elaboration - Hosting support
- Business - Training - Technology
modeling - Commercialization commercialization
- Training - Advanced business - Clustering
planning - Business
development

Table 1: The incubation process

Pre-incubation stage
Pre‐incubation relates to the overall activities needed to support the potential
entrepreneur in developing his business idea, business model and business plan,
to boost the chances to arrive to an effective start‐up creation. It usually implies
a first assessment of the idea, training, and direct one‐ to‐one assistance
necessary to put the client in the conditions to write a fully complete business
plan. University‐affiliated incubators are usually pre‐incubators. (Dichter,G.
Reis ,G. Marchand, N. Vanrie,P., 2010)

7

, Incubation stage
Concerns the support given to the entrepreneur from the start‐up to the expansion
phase. Typically, this is a mid‐term process, lasting usually for the first three
years of activity of the newly established company, which are the years in which
it is safe to say whether the new venture is successful and has a good chance to
develop into a fully mature company. The actions activated generally are access
to finance, direct coaching and mentoring services, as well as hosting services
and specific training. (Dichter,G. Reis ,G. Marchand, N. Vanrie,P., 2010)

Table 3: The incubation stage

Post-incubation stage: relates to the activities to be carried out when the
company has reached the maturity phase, and therefore is ready to walk on its
own feet. Various services might still be needed by the SME for example to
increment its sales or improve its productive processes, such as
internationalization services or innovation introduction through scouting and
detection activities. Incubators positioned as “post incubators” sometime rename
themselves as “accelerators”. (Dichter,G. Reis ,G. Marchand, N. Vanrie,P.,
2010)

, Conclusion

There are 3 stages of incubation that startups pass through, pre-incubation stage,
incubation stage and post incubation stage. Each one differs from the other in
terms of the services it offers and, each one of them depend on startup condition,
if it is at the early stages or it reached the maturity phase.

1. 4. Demographics and statistics that supports Project selection

Chart 1 :The percentage of toral labor force Chart 2: The percentage of the unemployment
Source: Central Agency for Public Mobilization Source: Central Agency for Public Mobilization

Chart 3 : Computer Science Enrollment Trends Chart 4: Computer Engineering Enrollment trends
Source: The American University in Cairo, 2019 Source: The American University in Cairo, 2019

Conclusion: As we see that the percentage of students enrolling in computer
science department and computer engineering increased from 2014 until 2019, and
