Personal Nursing Theory
Up to the recent decades, the field of nursing has been based on theories of other
practices. Through the incredible works and advocacy of the cornerstone nurses such as Barton,
Nightingale and Benner among others, the field of nursing has greatly advanced in the history.
From their works and advancement in the nursing profession, nurses have developed a strong
belief to evidence based practices, giving rise to a demonstration of skills that have now become
philosophies and nursing theories (McCutcheon & Stalter, 2017). A personal philosophy is set of
guidelines that we conduct and adhere to within the constraints of the nursing profession. In this
article I have addressed my personal philosophy in the nursing profession. I am going to address
my background, metaparadigm concept of nursing, additional concepts as well as propositions
for nursing by the use of real life examples.
Autobiography
To all nurses in the profession, caring has always been at the forefront. As a nurse I am
always committed to care for my patients. I began my educational journey as footballer at Grand
Canyon University where I did undergraduate education in biology with a thought of advancing
in a medical profession upon completion. These were just my goal not realizing that I can’t plan
my life on a piece of paper. In the year 2014 I got diagnosed with colon cancer stage 1. I was 19
years by that time and I was not aware of such a disease at my early age and how my life would
change. I spent a lot of time almost 3 years of treatments comprising of chemotherapy at the
hospital. Due to prolonged stay at the hospital and many medical attendants made several
relationships with medical staffs who nursed me. Through a series of conversations I got a great
insight and I felt that this was the best profession I need to join. After I was discharged from the
