Week 8 Compilation of Weekly
Reflections
The following are Weeks 1-7 reflections that have been compiled into a document to
complete the Week 8 reflection. I would like to thank you for a great session, Dr. Thompson. I
can only hope my future professors and classes are equally as pleasant.
Week 1 Reflection
I found all the concepts of week 1 to be interesting. If someone had asked me before the
reading this week what nursing theory was, I would have given them a blank stare. Given my
lack of knowledge on the subject, I found the most important topics covered in week 1 to be
what nursing theory is and how it affects my role as a nurse. The concepts of nursing theories
and how they affect care given to patients is important because it offers a look at the framework
behind nursing and the qualities one needs to possess to effectively work as a nurse.
Using these theories will help prepare me in my future role as a nurse practitioner by
providing knowledge for practice, allowing me to question why things are done a particular way,
and aiding me in delivering acceptable care. I feel that I have a vast knowledge of many life-
threatening and non-life-threatening illnesses that I obtained while working as a registered nurse
(RN) in the emergency department. I hope that this, along with my desire to learn new
techniques, procedures, and treatments will assist me in my new role as a nurse practitioner.
While I do feel confident in physical assessments and patient care, I do feel unprepared when it
comes to prescribing new medications placed on the market and skills that I have not perfected in
my role as an RN (such as interpreting x-rays, placing sutures, etc.). While I have many more
sessions with Chamberlain, I hope to learn as much as possible to help ensure I am a competent
nurse practitioner and provide my patient with the very best care.
