Side effects:
Male Specific: Priapism, gynecomastia, azoospermia, testicular atrophy, prostate
hypertrophy and prostate cancer.
Female Specific: Masculinization, voice deepening, hirsutism, menstrual disturbances, clitoral
enlargement, breast atrophy and uterine atrophy. ------ should be avoided in pregnancy.
Child Specific: Premature epiphyseal closure (short stature), precocious puberty in boys,
delayed puberty and contra-sexual precocity in girl.
General:
Dermatological: Oily skin, acne stretch marks (rapid muscle enlargement), hypertrichosis
(excessive body hair growth), androgenic alopecia and fluid retention edema.
Endocrine: Libido changes, infertility and hypogonadism.
Hepatic: elevated liver function tests and hepatotoxicity: exclusively with 17 - alkylated AAS
such as Methyltestosterone, Oxymetholone.
Cardiovascular: dyslipidemia (increased LDL levels and decreased HDL levels), atherosclerosis,
hypertension, (sodium and water retention) thrombosis, myocardial infarction and sudden
death.
