Good morning class,
One thing I have taken away from this course is the importance of nursing research on
what we do as nurses and why we do it. I realized quantitative research uses statistical
data, while qualitative research refers to a patient’s experience and feelings. Research
is recognized as the foundation for evidence-based practice (Houser, 2018). If
administration or management does not accept and support change, then studies will
prove challenging to adopt with the implementation of new research practices (Jyothi,
2012). We hear so many people state“ if it is not broken then do not fix it,” but in all
reality, there are better ways to conduct cost-effective and efficient practices. The
pathophysiology has always been an interest, but how the treatment was devised was
still the mystery. I was one that did not feel confident with the thought of research
because of the unknown aspects of conducting a thorough study, but this course has
given me new insight regarding research designs and their intended purpose. New
research proves safer and better patient outcomes.
As a nurse, we can read and validate research studies or join a committee that
collaborates on implementing new policies and procedures from conducted research.
Critiquing studies for trustworthiness and identifying adequate analysis for the targeted
population can assist in determining the strength of the study. Nurses have worked
through changes in healthcare and having a receptive attitude towards advancements
for nursing interventions and treatment of disease processes will contribute to evidence-
based practices in the clinical setting (Houser, 2018).
