Vicarious Learning
- Where students problem solve and make decisions based on simulated
situations that are made real to the learner
- 3 types
- Case study: stories that impact learning
- May be fictional or include real persons and events, be short
and self contained for a limited of time
- Simulation: for problem solving that have little to no risk to patients
or to organizational performance
- Example: computer simulations
- Problem Solving Learning: to address and learn from authentic
problems
- Typically meet in small groups to discuss and analyze real life
problems. They learn by problem solving
Leadership Roles
- A leader takes risks, attempt to achieve shared goals, and inspire others to
action
- Behavior determines if he or she holds a leadership role
- Transformational leader: empower followers to assume responsibility for a
communal vision and personal development in a secondary outcome
- Transactional leader: focus on immediate problems, maintaining the status
quo and using rewards to motivate followers

- May not be part of a formal organization
- Focuses on group process, information gathering, feedback, and
empowering others

- Have a legitimate source of power due to delegated authority that
accompanies their position
- Have specific duties and responsibilities they are expected to carry
out
- Emphasize control, decision making, decision analysis, and results
- Manipulate people, environment, money, time, and other resources to
achieve the goals of the organization
- Have greater formal responsibility and accountability for rationality
and control than leaders
- Direct willing and unwilling subordinates
Tort
- Legal wrongs committed against a person or property within a contract in
