DILEMMA
It is a difficult situation in which an individual is confronted to choose between two or more
alternative actions to resolve the problem.
TYPES OF DILEMMA
a. CLASSIC DILEMMAS - Different criteria, same behavior
Examples:
1. Order vs Freedom
2. Empowerment vs Alignment
b. TEMPORAL DILEMMAS – Same process, different criteria applied at a different time
Examples:
1. Innovation vs Manufacturability
2. Speed (customer satisfaction) vs Accuracy (process integrity)
c. ORTHOGONAL DILEMMAS – Different behaviors, different criteria
Examples:
1. Centralization vs Decentralization
2. Service orientation vs Product orientation
d. SEQUENTIAL DILEMMAS - Different behaviors, different times
Examples:
1. Performance vs Development
2. Work vs Home
