Epithelial tissue secretes, absorbs, protects, transports and senses.

”3. What is the function of connective tissue? ”

Connective tissues, binds and supports, protects, insulates, and transports substances.

”4. What is the function of muscular tissue? ”

Muscular tissue provides movement and also provides support and function.

”5. What is the function of nervous tissue? ”

Nervous tissue receives stimuli and sends impulses.

”6. Describe sebaceous glands, sweat glands, and hairs with regard to the function of the skin. ”

Sebaceous glands secret sebum to keep skin soft and waterproof, sweat glands control body
temperature, and hair also controls body temperature.

”7. What is the function of melanin? ”

Melanin provides protection of the skin from the sun.

”8. List the similarities and differences of the layers of the epidermis. ”

The basal layer is a thin layer closest to the surface of th skin. This is usually the only layer that divides
cells. The stratum spinosum contains prickle cells. The stratum granulosom secretes lipid cells that act as
a water barrier. Te stratum lucidum is a thin layer that is difficult to identify. The last layer is the stratum
corneum which is dead skin cell layers that are full of keratin.
