Week 2: YOU DECIDE Re-Organization of Middlefield Hospital HSM541 TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction 2 Analysis of the problems affecting the hospital 3 Recommended Strategies 4 Conclusion 5 Works Cited 6 INTRODUCTION Over the past few years, the Middlefield hospital has experienced a plethora of problems that are threatening to bring down the facility. During this period, the service has experienced a high turnover where it has lost most of its employees to rivals. Previously, the hospital had adopted an integrated medical care where it offered both inpatient and outpatient medical services to the residents of the area. The services were so efficient that it was regarded very highly by the locals. However, these recent events are threatening to sweep away the gains that it has made. This paper provides an examination of the issues troubling the company and the various ways in which they may be resolved so that the company may not lose out to the new entrants. ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEMS AFFECTING THE HOSPITAL It is undeniable that Middlefield hospital has been affected immensely by the recent developments. For a facility to perform optimally, it must be in a position to attract and retain the best professionals in the market. Besides, it must be in a position to make sure that it has the number of employees who are in a position to meet the workforce demands of the organization. Some of the reasons that influence employees to depart and join other institutions include improved wages and better working conditions. It is evident that the new hospital that has opened doors in the market the market could be doing something that is not available at Middlefield. The report indicates that the new hospital has invested in modern technology and the local university has stopped offering some of the programs that played very critical roles in the provision of labor to the hospital. In that regard, the nurses at the new hospital have a working environment which is much better than what is being offered by Middlefield Hospital. The deteriorating situation at the hospital is a result of a sustained competitive pressure from the new hospital. However, due to the brand that it has built over the years, all is not lost for Middle field. It is still capable of turning around the situation. The following are some of the strategies that the hospital can put in place to improve its human resource department. RECOMMENDED STRATEGIES Middlefield hospital must improve the working environment of the nurses and other staff members within its ranks. The new hospital that has established its operations in the market has provided an improved working environment to its employees. The basis of motivating employees in every society is the ability of the institution to satisfy their financial needs. In that regard, Middlefield must come up with a new wage structure that competitively remunerates its employees. It’s hard to work with a workforce that is unhappy with the amounts of money that they are earning [Tot11]. Additionally, even if the officials stay in the hospital, but they are not happy, their productivity would be affected. Research indicates that the key towards a successful organization is the happiness of the workers. In that regard, Middlefield must make sure that the employees are happy. Secondly, Middlefield must improve the condition of the facilities. One of the primary factors behind the success of modern medical services is the availability of advanced technology. It is incredibly important that the hospital invests heavily in the contemporary medical equipment that would allow the workers to carry out their activities with ease [Mow82]. It is necessary for modern hospitals to have modern equipment so that they can make work easy for their employees as well as have the confidence of the patients. For instance, when it comes to the treatment and management of cancer, it is appropriate that Middlefield invests in the right technology that will respond to the needs and the challenges of the situation. Finally, some individuals have been working in the same positions for a very long time. For example, Ann has worked for the facility for twenty-two years without any element of upward mobility. The hospital must have a plan with which they will use to evaluate employees and provide opportunities for promotion [Voo11]. If people that come late are given a chance to climb ranks ahead of those who have been serving for a prolonged period, it is possible that some people will feel demoralized and that will reduce the quality of medical services in the hospital. CONCLUSION Although the situation at Middlefield is worrying, it is not impossible to turn it around. The management needs to initiate some initiatives that will improve the morale of the employees. Firstly, the wage structure must be adjusted to conform to the market standards and levels. The hospital must also provide a favorable working environment by purchasing the necessary technology in the hospital. Finally, the human resources department must put in place modalities that allow the employees to have an upward mobility in the employment ranks. The officials must have an opportunity to receive promotions without bias, and that will motivate them to achieve great heights. WORKS CITED Mowday, R. T., Porter, L. W., Steers, R. M., & Warr, P.
