PHY 114
, ABSTRACT:
The main objective of this lab was to study and capacitors to help measure the electrostatic force
between two objects. This was done by using several capacitors 0.1 F, 1.0 µF, and an unknown. They
were used to collect data on how energy was transferred and the total amount of energy transferred. The
capacitors all gave an output of 0.47 V, 0.89 V, and 1.78 V respectively. Graph plotted in part D showed
that charges on a capacitor drain out exponentially over a period of 5 seconds as heat on the resister.
Errors in the experiment were likely due to natural fluctuations of a current or simply negligence in the
form of misreading values or inconsistent charging/discharging of the capacitors. Overall the experiment
was a success.
