Task B - Plan an installation
Task C - Design procedures
Task D - Upgrade and install software
Recommended time allowance: 6 hours
Introduction
You are employed as an ICT support technician for a company called ABC Ltd. The
company has won a contract to install and configure some workstations. You have
been given the task of installing the required software and preparing some procedures
that can be used by your colleagues. For this assignment you will be upgrading the Operating
System on a test workstation and then installing two applications.
To help maintain standards within the company, you have been asked to create a short
training document to help other technicians understand why software needs installing
or upgrading. The training document will need to include any potential risks when
installing or upgrading software as well as explaining the importance of the user
acceptance policy.
The software installation must be planned and this will be done using the template provided. You
will need to consider the resources required to complete the work and a sequence of activities.
The company wants processes that your colleagues can use so they have asked you to create a
procedure for preserving data integrity before upgrade an Operating System and a procedure to
back out of application installations. You should test the procedure for preserving data integrity by
implementing it when you upgrade the Operating System.
Before the Operating System is upgraded it is essential that existing data is safeguarded. When
installing the applications it is important that you can recover the situation if an installation goes
wrong. You must follow any guidelines issued by your company to ensure a thorough
and effective installation is performed and you should test your installation to ensure
that it meets customer requirements. Record the installations by inserting screen
shots in the template provided. When the installation is complete you must inform
your trainer.
